The disc dryer is mainly used for sludge drying in different processes, especially for waste water treatment plants. In a horizontal tank with a vapour collecting chamber on the top side a slow turning disc rotor is installed. The discs are of double shell design with steam heating on the inside. Due to the narrow distance between the discs a big heating surface in relatively small space is possible.

Low pressure steam is normally being used for heating the discs The rotor is driven by a well dimensioned electrical drive with gear box.
